We Love’ – the infamous 22 hour party from Space in Ibiza – will release their first ever compilation ‘We Love.. Ibiza’.
Mixed by two of the UK’s most talented DJs/producers/re-touchers – Riton and Serge Santiago – ‘We Love.. Ibiza’ will be a two disk compilation of the most upfront music and the odd We Love classic; encapsulating what We Love is all about – good music, cutting edge talent and fun times..
We Love: “We’ve held off putting out a mix CD until now – eight seasons after our start – because we feel as soon as you put a disk into the marketplace, it defines what you are all about musically – a dangerous position to put yourself in. We’ve thought long and hard about this; looking through our own CD collections to see if it can be possible for us to make a timeless compilation – and there are a few to stand alongside.. So, how to achieve the seemingly unachievable? Look towards producers and DJs who have a grander plan when it comes to playing out – a “nobody’s making the music that I want to play so I’ll make my own” style – music where the personality of the producer comes to the forefront. We think we have a winner but only time will tell! Enjoy ‘We Love.. Ibiza’ and let us know of you’re still playing it ten years down the line.”
Riton “I jack to the sound of the underground” (notice it’s his own face on the T-shirt)
Riton – pronounced ‘ree-ton’, the French street term for Henry – is Henry Smithson. Riton released his first album ‘Beats Du Jour’, in 2001, on UK label Grand Central – a downbeat electronica album hailed by luminaries including Laurent Garnier, Richard Dorfmeister and Ewan Pearson. He released his follow-up album ‘Homies and Homos’ in 2004 – a ‘rock meets rave in a basement’ electronic album featuring the vocals of Lee Jones (Howdi), Luca Santucci (Playgroup) and Ben Fat Trucker – also Riton’s partner in his ‘Gucci Soundsystem’ outfit, who have released on Bugged Out and DFA recordings and remixed the likes of Tiefschwarz.
Riton has also released on Berlin labels Souvenir and Get Physical, Parisian label Dialect and has remixed artists including Para One, Data Rock the Aliens, Simian Mobile Disco, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams and the Human League. He has also recently finished his third artist album ‘Eine Kliene Nacht Musik’, which sees another twist in his musical direction – taking in the sounds of the Kosmische ‘Krautrock’ – floaty hippy trance -world of 1970’s Germany.. As well as working on a new studio project with Soulwax..
Serge Santiago: “Slip on it, you might like it”
Serge Santiago released his first record ‘Push It’ (sampling Salt ‘N Pepa) in 1999 on Brighton imprint Stompa Phunk. He followed with releases including ‘Impendence’ and ‘Come On’ and in 2003 hooked up with Matt Edwards to form Radio Slave. The duo fast became sought after re-touchers, responsible for re-editing Kylie Minogue, White Stripes and Justin Timberlake, amongst others.. Santiago, after over 15 edits under the Radio Slave moniker, split in 2005 and began a series of coloured vinyl re-edit of classic Italo/Disco tracks. Coveted and searched for DJ tools, releases have included re-edits of Advance ‘Take me to the Top’ (pink vinyl), Kano ‘It’s a War’ (green vinyl) and Grace Jones ‘Slave to The Rhythm’ (red vinyl).
In 2005, Serge Santiago started his own label ‘Arcobaleno’ (meaning ‘rainbow’ in Italian). His own ‘Atto D’amore’ was the label’s first release and one which gained huge support from the likes of Trevor Jackson, Damian Lazarus and the DFA crew. Alone, Serge Santiago has remixed artists including Goldfrapp, Husky Rescue, Chikinki, Cagedbaby, Roxy Music, Tiga, Phat Phaze, Elton John, Armand Van Helden, International Pony, Italian X-Ray and The Rapture. He is currently working on new releases and remixes for Arcobaleno.
Edit, Edit, Edit: Riton will represent the Discoteca (inside) of Space and Serge Santiago the Terrace. Both Riton and Santiago played Space (and in fact Ibiza) for only the first time last summer – We Love loved them (of course), asked them to become residents this summer (five dates each) and they are now mixing the first ever ‘We Love..’ compilation. Both artists have also produced an exclusive track for the compilation (Riton ‘Sound of the Studio’ and Serge Santiago ‘R2D2′) – which you won’t find anywhere else other than on this CD and in their sets this summer.. For the first part anyway.
